Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device

Official Trezor® start guide: step-by-step instructions to initialize, secure and use your hardware wallet with Trezor Suite. These instructions prioritize safety and verification — follow only official links and confirm everything on-device.

Begin with the essentials

The goal of Trezor.io/Start® is to get you from unboxing to confident ownership. Your Trezor® stores private keys offline; Trezor Suite is the verified management interface. Read these steps fully before you start and keep your recovery seed offline at all times.

Verify official sources Download Trezor Suite and any required bridge utilities from trezor.io/start or open the web client at suite.trezor.io.
Unbox and inspect Examine packaging seals and the device for tamper evidence. If the device or seals look modified, contact official support before proceeding.
Plan seed storage Prepare a secure, offline place to record the 12/24-word recovery seed (paper, steel plate). Never photograph or store the seed digitally.

1. Initialize your Trezor®

Power the device and follow the on-screen prompts to create a new wallet or restore an existing one. Choose a PIN you can remember but that is not easily guessable. The device will display each step — confirm all inputs on the device screen.

Never enter your recovery seed into a computer, phone, or website — it belongs offline, on the physical medium you prepared.

2. Record and secure the recovery seed

During initialization Trezor will present a 12- or 24-word recovery seed. Write the words in order and keep multiple copies in different secure physical locations if desired. Treat the seed as the master key to your funds.

If the seed is exposed, move funds to a newly generated wallet immediately.

3. PIN and optional passphrase

The PIN prevents unauthorized use of the device. A passphrase (optional) creates a hidden wallet instance — useful for added privacy and security but must be backed up separately if used.

Never share your PIN or passphrase. Enter them only on the device, never on third-party screens.

4. Connect to Trezor Suite

Open Trezor Suite, connect your device via USB, and follow Suite prompts to add accounts. Suite displays transaction details — always verify amounts and addresses on your device before approving.

Suite also guides firmware updates and secure integrations with third-party wallets.

5. Firmware & updates

Only install firmware published and signed by Trezor®. Suite will verify update signatures automatically. Firmware updates deliver security fixes and new features — keep your device current.

Never install firmware from unverified sources or follow unofficial update instructions.

6. Integrations & third-party apps

Trezor integrates with trusted wallets and services (for example MetaMask, Electrum). When you connect, each signing request must be confirmed on the device. That confirmation is the last and most important trust point.

Prefer well-known, open-source integrations and double-check URLs and extensions before use.

7. Troubleshooting & support

If your device is not recognized, try a different USB cable, a different port, or restart Suite. For official troubleshooting steps and videos, visit trezor.io/support.

If you encounter suspicious prompts requesting your seed, disconnect and consult official support immediately.

Final advice — safety & ownership

Trezor® gives you self-custody: you, and only you, control the private keys. Maintain offline backups of your recovery seed, confirm every action on the device display, and rely exclusively on official software from trezor.io/start and suite.trezor.io.
